Clip On Tablecloth Weights

There really are many different options to choose from.

If you're looking for a style and maintaining class, these stainless steel tablecloth weights pictured below will be perfect for you.

These stainless steel weights are available on Amazon

Most tablecloth weights available on Amazon seem to be designed for outdoor use, rather than being intended to maintain class and style of indoor dining tables. However, these have a modern feel, and will not bring down the appearance of your tablecloth.

There are many other options which are designed more for outdoor use, with picnic and barbeque themes. Although they may look a little tacky if used indoors for fine dining, they're perfectly suited to any picnic or barbeque and some are really quite cute.

These cute picnic basket weights are perhaps my favorite

I also find these heart weights to be quite cute and these will be quite appropriate for indoor tablecloths.

Obviously the design you choose will be largely dependent on the setting and occasion.

If you want a heavy weight optionview my post on cast iron bird tablecloth weights (my favorite). Obviously, they're made of cast iron, but they're also very attractive.

Indoors or outdoors?

For indoor tables, weights such as fruits and animals are going to look a little cheap and tacky and may be seen as "bad taste". Whilst perfect for barbeques and picnics, they're definitely not the best option for a dining table if you're looking to maintain a little class. There's a range to suit anything from picnic tables to more formal dining settings.

I have several other solutions to tablecloths moving and getting blown away listed in my two previous blog posts, which focus on clips and clamps.

Recommended Reading:

1. Tablecloth clips
2. Tablecloth clamps

Whilst these are a less attractive option, they're cheap and they are more effective at actually holding a table cloth in place. Weights will have the ability to minimize movement, but for windy conditions or to prevent toddlers pulling things down on themselves, clips and clamps will be a much more effective solution.

Tablecloth Clamps

Adjustable Spring-Loaded Tablecloth Clamps

Wind proof your tablecloth and prevent slipping of indoor tablecloths!

I recently became are of these tablecloth clamps, which are allow me to hold down my tablecloth in a way which looks pleasant, as these clamps have a reasonably aesthetic appearance. I guess there's not really much you can say about these, except that they work.

These clamps are available on Amazon

It can be really infuriating when your tablecloth continually slips or gets blown off. I must admit, until I became aware of these options, I just lived with it, even though it was a really irritating problem. University text books, assignments, my laptop and a bunch of other stuff used to always be sliding around on my table, messing up my table cloth alignment. I have a white floral table cloth which constantly slips down and looks uneven and unattractive. I find it really messes up the look of my dining room, just makes it look sloppy.

Small simple ideas like this can eliminate regular sources of irritation. There are other options, such as little plastic clips which are perhaps a little less noticeable, or you can purchase some tablecloth weights.

Another option that also may be worth considering is a gripper style mat which goes underneath your tablecloth. This is obviously going to be the best option for those who are concerned about the appearance of clips and clamps.

Tablecloth Clips - How To Stop Your Tablecloth Sliding

Let me show you a few nifty little clips which will put an end to the irritating problem of tablecloths slipping, falling and blowing away in the wind.

This is one of the most simple and cheap ways of stopping your tablecloth from sliding on your tabletop. Simply clip several of these around all four edges to hold your tablecloth in place.

Plastic Tablecloth Clips

Details:
1. Fits up to 3/4" table width
2. Pack of 24 (recommended 6 per table)
3. High quality plastic

The tablecloth clips shown here are relatively unobtrusive and will hold the cloth in place. These are very cheaply priced and come in a pack of 24, so there will be plenty of replacements when you inevitably lose a few. They're able to be placed on tables which have an edge width of 3/4" or under. The fact that these are clear makes them perfect for use indoors, as they are relatively unnoticeable. Being transparent is an important quality, in order to allow them to remain relatively unobtrusive.

   Clips for Thicker Table Edges

Details:
1. Fits up to 1.5" tabletop width
2. Pack of 4 clips
3. Made in the USA

If you'd like a clip which is designed to bend a little wider, you could try these, as they're designed to fit tables with a width of up to 1.5". These will stop slipping and sliding whilst remaining relatively unnoticeable.

The clarity of the plastic makes them perfect for use indoors, even in more formal dining areas. Those who have reviewed this item have found it to be a sturdy item, that securely holds tablecloths in place whilst remaining unnoticeable. These are also more suitable to edges which are angular, which are common for formal dining tables. These clips are cheap, transparent, effective and are an excellent option for any table.

Steel Clips for Picnic Tables

Details:
1. Fits 1 - 1.5" tabletop width
2. Pack of 6 clips
3. Spring-steel is stronger and more durable than plastic

Stop slipping and sliding easily with these spring-steel tablecloth clips. The curved part of the clip simply bends as far as you need it to, in order for it to fit on the edge of your picnic table. The fact that these are made of steel offers a little extra strength, but creates a little potential for rust. Also, they are slightly more conspicuous than clear plastic clips. However, this will generally not be an issue if they're being used for outdoor settings or picnic tables. If you're simply looking for something to stop your food being blown of the table along with your tablecloth then these are going to be a nice cheap effective solution.

Do these products also increase safety?

It may sound like a bit of an exaggeration, but interestingly, these clips and clamps actually increase household safety. Young children are capable of pulling on tablecloths, dragging down items which are capable of causing injuries. Items being pulled down or knocked off also creates the risk of spilled drinks, broken glasses, stained carpets, and even damage to products such as electronics. So its not just a case of decreasing the hassle of having to straighten or place your tablecloth back on your table.

It's the kind of common yet rather annoying problem which appears to have no solution. However, the products described above are quite inexpensive and easy to use, and will definitely save you a few hassles. You can also purchase items such as grip mats which cover tablecloths, to provide grip and secure them without requiring weights or clips. You can also purchase special version which are padded, which not only provide extra grip, but also protect tabletops from scratches and burns. These products cost a little more but may very well be worth the investment.

First world problems...

This really is a first world problem. However, sometimes when you get enough first world problems coming at you,  you can feel like you're losing your mind.
